GISA - very focused on Player Developement
Did you know?

Try-Out Schedule

At the end of each Spring soccer season, GISA holds open try-outs for the next year's select level teams. Current club members and players who have not been members of GISA teams are given the opportunity to compete for team positions. At GISA, all players are required to try-out and play in their proper age group if feasible. Try-outs are governed by GYSA rules and must be completed in the early part of June.

The Try-Out Process

At the beginning of the try-out sessions, GISA will hold an orientation session for those parents who are not familiar with GISA or with select soccer. The tryout sessions will be divided by age group, and will consist of technical and tactical training sessions and scrimmages designed to allow the DOC and GISA Placement Committee to evaluate the skill, desire, attitude and potential of each player. As teams get older and more established, individual team try-out procedures may vary according to the needs of the team. Final player selections are made without regard to race, religion, creed, color, national or ethnic origin. Selection to a team one year does not guarantee that player a place on the team the following year.

Recruiting

The GYSA rules provide strict limitations on conversations with non-club members about a team’s selection process. These rules are designed to prevent the improper "recruiting" of players from other clubs, and they apply to coaches, parents and team members. Prior to the end of the spring season, it is improper to recruit a player from any other club. If you would like to share information about your team or its selection process with a member of another club, first check with your GISA coach for guidance. The penalties for improper contacts with other team members or their parents can be severe.

GISA Travel Teams Fact Sheet
Fall 08 / Spring 09

Teams:
GISA will have annually selected Travel Soccer Teams for both boys and girls in every age bracket from U/9 to U/19. There are, on occasion, seasons when a particular age or gender will not have a team. It is expected that once a player is selected and agrees to play, that he or she is committed to the team for the whole season i.e. fall U/15 - U/19 and fall/spring season U/9 -U/14.
Cost:
For U/9 thru U/19, the fall and spring registration fees will be $TBA plus uniform. Uniforms are on a 2-year cycle. This includes GYSA registration, insurance, referee fees, field mainentance. Teams with paid trainers/coaches will have additional trainer/coaches fees.
Travel:
On average, GISA travel teams have 4-5 away games. These away games are usually in the metro Jacksonville area. These games are normally within a two-hour drive and are day trips.
Coaching:
The GISA DOC assigns the travel trainer/coach for each team.
Schedules:
The fall season will run from mid August to mid November. The regular spring season will run from mid March to mid May. Travel team tryouts are held in late May.
Tournaments:
GISA travel teams are encouraged to play 2 to 3 tournaments per season. We will look to attend tournaments as a club. The travel teams are required to attend the fall and spring club-hosted tournaments. The cost for all tournaments is not included in the registration fee and is handled by the team manager.
Training:
Travel teams train twice a week at the Jekyll Soccer Complex. Travel team training schedules will be put together at the beginning of each season.
